Under-12 City League Final
Written by The Juvenile Hurling Club
Monday, 05 May 2008

hurling ballinderreen juvenile
The Ballinderreen u-12's gave a great account of themselves in the recent city league final. With Brendan Burke in superb form in goals and the fullback line of Evan Fitzgerald, Alan Connolly and Jack Murphy also in superb form. The wing-backs Alana and Killian Moran played super hurling helped out by Daniel Connolly at centre back with Andrew O Kane and Ryan Connolly hurling well at midfield.

Ballinderreen were unlucky to be a goal down at half time. Dara O Brien finished the game with a sore knee and was very unlucky not to score just after half-time with his shot hitting the sidenetting. Sean Meehan also played his heart out in the half-forward line. A great performance from a team thats improving with every game. The final score was Carnmore 2-5 Ballinderreen 0-0.

Alan Connolly was awarded 'man of the match' after the game and with the Moran twins also giving player of the match performances it all bears well for the upcoming championship.

U-14’s progress to championship semi-final

Ballinderreen 2-3     Oranmore-Maree 0-8

Ballinderreen overcame a determined Oranmore-Maree side by one point in this championship quarter-final in what was a nail-biting and exciting encounter that was anyones game for the taking right up to the final whistle.

Ballinderreen led for the entire match but with only a point separating the sides for the last five minutes they had to fight hard to repel a number of late Oranmore onslaughts. Clearances in those dying minutes from corner-backs Alan Connolly and the tigerish Shane Helebert relieved the pressure for the Ballinderreen defence and the final whistle immediately after was greeted with a mighty cheer from the Ballinderreen supporters present.

Galway Voice Match Report - Senior v Gort

Report appeared on the ‘The Galway Voice’ on 28/04/08.

Gort Shade It In Derby Encounter

Ballinderreen 1-11     Gort 2-14

What a difference a day makes. Following Saturdays sunshine, a deluge met the hurlers of Gort and Ballinderreen as they made the short trip to Kinvara to contest this Senior Hurling Championship derby game with Gort, coming out on top after a pulsating and wholehearted encounter.

A purple patch from Gort in the third quarter ultimately told this time out, but there was little in it and Ballinderreen refused to throw in the towel, managing a gloriously scrappy goal from substitute Kevin Conneely with the last puck of the game.

Oisín Burke scores hat-trick of goals as Ballinderreen U-14's qualify for knockout stages of championship

Ballinderreen 5-2     Ardrahan 0-6

A superb all-round team performance from start to finish proved the key for Ballinderreen as they qualified from their championship group for the knockout stages of the championship. Virtually every player that lined out in this match wore their jersey with distinction and worked their hearts out in an impressive display.

Ballinderreen have a great half-back line in John Fallon, Sean Collins and Conor Meehan and they repelled countless Ardrahan attacks throughout the match. Mikey Burke, a very talented goalkeeper, pulled some great saves and he had great cover from his excellent full-back Paul Linnane. Shane Helebert, only just recovered from a knee injury, steadied the full-back line very well and Alan Connolly also did well in the opposite corner.

U-12's Qualify For City League Final!

Ballinderreen Under 12's do their parish proud in city-league semi-final.

Ballinderreeen 0-9     Spiddal 0-5

The Ballinderreen under-12 team, managed by John  Lane, had a great win over a very good Spiddal side last Friday evening in Furbo. Ballinderreen played with the wind in the first half leading by 5 points to no score at half-time. As expected Spiddal made use of the wind in the second half with the full-time score at 5 points apiece.

Ballinderreen played their best hurling in extra-time scoring 2 points in the first-half of it. Facing the wind in the second half they hurled as if their lives depended on it, scoring two more points and holding Spiddal scoreless in extra time.

Ballinderreen School qualify for next round

Luke Tully impresses as Ballinderreen National School qualify from blitz for the next round of the championship.

Ballinderreen National School started their championship with three games in a blitz in Ardrahan last Wednesday.

The first game against Spiddal was a tough encounter against a physically superior team. A 2 goal debut by eight year old Niall Coen swung the game in Ballinderreens favour. There were great performances from Luke Tully, Sinéad Burke and Evan Fitzgerald.

The second game was against Lisheenkyle, a team that beat Ballinderreen a few years ago in a county semi-final, and this was another great match. Luke Tully was once again to the fore and there were great performances from Sean Lyons, Andrew O Kane, Daragh O Brien and Daniel Whitcroft who scored 1-2 to ensure victory for Ballinderreen.
